Nestle Purina Pet Care Company recently invited New Leash on Life to participate in “Tales for the Pet Lover’s Heart”, a unique partnership with Kroger that celebrates the endearing bond between people and their pets.

As part of the campaign, New Leash on Life is being recognized and celebrated for our dedication to the community and to giving animals a new home.  Supporters of New Leash on Life can vote online for Dusty's story from April 18 through July 31 and help us win up to $50,000!!  You can vote once per day, so be sure to bookmark the site and visit often!  CLICK HERE TO VOTE NOW

Every day we care for animals, many of whom come to us under desperate circumstances. Dusty and his 14 canine peers were more heartbreaking than most. Seized by animal control as part of an animal cruelty case, Dusty was malnourished, filthy, and fearful, with hair so matted that he was in constant pain and nearly immobile. His faith in people was as fragile as his physical condition. With time and compassion, Dusty was able to trust us to clip his hair and administer medicated baths to soothe his skin. He was now able to walk! Concerned over his spirit we called in the support of our volunteer community to get Dusty in a nurturing foster home. We all cried and celebrated the day the court battle was over and Dusty was able to begin his life with his adoptive forever home. Dusty's joy and happiness touches our hearts.

About the Program

• Purina and Cincinnati-based Kroger Co. have teamed up to launch the third-annual “Tales for the Pet Lover’s Heart” campaign, celebrating the unique bond between people and their pets, while donating funds to animal welfare organizations nationwide.

• The campaign invites consumers to visit www.TalesForThePetLoversHeart.com now through July 31, 2010 to vote for their favorite pet tale submitted by18 different animal welfare organization from across the country. Participating pet organizations operate in communities served by Kroger, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, Food 4 Less, Smith’s, Fry’s, King Soopers, Dillon, QFC and Jay C stores.

• The five pet tales that receive the most votes will be brought to life through video. Together, Purina, the Kroger family of stores and animal lover Trista Sutter from ABC’s “The Bachelorette” will select the “Top Tale” of 2010 and award the submitting animal welfare organization with $50,000 in October. All participating animal welfare organizations will receive a $3,000 donation from Purina and Kroger, and the “Top Tale” runners up will receive an additional $11,500 each. In total, Purina and the Kroger family of stores will donate $150,000 to 18 animal welfare organizations nationwide participating in the “Tales the for Pet Lover’s Heart” campaign.

• The campaign will conclude with the airing of the “Tales for the Pet Lover’s Heart” television special in select local markets across the country in November. The special will highlight relationships between owners and their four-legged friends, including stories captured during exclusive pet lover “casting call” events in select Kroger markets.
